I got an invitation to a fundraiser. That’s not unusually, fundraisers happen all the time. Then I looked closer at the invite and it was someone I know. I don’t know him that well, you know brother of a friend I haven’t seen in a while type of thing. Well come to find out he’s got stage IV cancer. Now anyone who knows cancer knows that’s not good but he’s also got it in a place that isn’t usually curable plus stage IV indicates it’s spread. This is a young guy in his early to mid-thirties who just got the worst news imaginable. To make things worse he has been recently married. So this will affect a lot of people. The ripple effect is beginning.
Now I’m not writing this to depress you or to sadden you. I’m writing this to reach out to you. I think of the ripple effect this can have. It will affect this guy and his siblings, his parents, his aunt and uncles, grandparents, etc. Then he is married now it’s is wife and her parents and her cousins, etc. This will tear apart their world. I’m guessing or maybe I just want to believe over time they will heal. They might always have a scar but their wounds will heal. They will most likely go on to live happy and fulfilling lives if they haven’t already.
I will be attending the event and I started to think, I wonder the purpose of the event. Sometimes it’s to raise money for other people going through the same things, sometimes it to raise money for the family involved and other times it’s for research purpose to help prevent this happening to other people. All great purposes. The second one resonates with me the most though. I deal with peoples money. I deal with insurance. Something like this you can never be prepared for. It will never be easy. Can you make it less worse? Maybe one less thing to worry about? It is why I do what I do. I think if I could help one person, make a situation like this a tiny bit easier for one person. I might just make a small difference in this enormous world around us.
I have specifically left off the details because I didn’t ask if this person or their family wanted the attention. If you are interested in learning more or making a donation please e-mail me at evolutionofwealth@rocketmail.com. I will be happy to forward over the information to those who would like to help. Remember it is the smallest donations that add up to making the biggest difference.
